 A helmet is worn on the head.  It is a short ball cap with a chinstrap that is set to tighten snugly on the head and protect the wearer from injuries.  A fall from a horse can cause severe injury.  There are two types of helmets that are worn, one is for protection, and the other is for show.  A hard plastic hat is available and should be worn during fast riding. Softer more stylish hats are worn for appearance only.
